Progressive Design-Build for Rail and Transit Projects: Room to Run
In its 14th year of opening a project management office in Gurugram (then Gurgaon), U.S.-based Hill International has covered significant ground and remains in an expansion mode with multiple new contracts awarded this year, while at the same time it is actively bidding for several new contracts.
“To keep pace with its economic growth, India is amongst the few nations today that present opportunities in the infrastructure [airports, Ports, metros/ RRTS/ HSR, elevated roads, tunnels, and bridges], real estate, and renewable energy sectors to name a few,” says Jignesh Ruparel, Vice President will Hill International in Mumbai. “All these present opportunities to Hill and we are working to offer local solutions from our global expertise.”
In the first half of 2023, Hill started partnering with Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE), India’s Leading Engineering Consultancy in the Infrastructure Sector. This consortium was successfully awarded the contract to provide PMC Services for monitoring and supervision of the Kharghar-Turbhe Tunnel Road (KTLR) at Navi Mumbai for the City & Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra. The project entails the construction of over 5.5 km of a six-lane road with two 1.76 km Tunnels. Additionally, Hill International is working with TCE in providing PMC services for the development of a Mass Housing project at Mulund in Maharashtra and on Urban Transformation in Madhya Pradesh under the flagship Atal Mission (AMRUT 2.0).
The AMRUT Project’s scope includes the development of water supply, sewerage, and septage management; storm water drainage; green spaces and parks; and non-motorized urban transport facilities. Hill foresees immense potential for future associations with TCE on select projects of mutual interest, he said.
“Hill International with his offices in Delhi and Mumbai is keen on future opportunities in metro rail, tunnels, ports, airports, buildings, and data centers,” Ruparel said.
HICC and cost consultancy services
Besides PMC, Hill International Cost Consultancy India (HICC) is proud to be in the same space in the nation by continuing to associate with various high profile and large projects across a range of building sectors, said Executive Director Sateesh Kumar.
In 2021, Hill International expanded its presence and footprint in India and added a new line of service to complement its project management services with the acquisition of the NEYO Group, says Said Mneimne, Senior Vice President for Asia-Pacific.
NEYO Group was then a pan-Indian cost consulting firm with nearly 120 professionals working in its four offices in Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, and Mumbai and at that time with the acquisition, Hill doubled its full-time employees in India to 220 and also increased its total offices to six in India. Prior to this deal, Hill had two prime offices in India: Gurgaon and Mumbai.
“We have increased our geographic presence across India through a remarkable growth in client base and team size and consolidating our position as one of the top cost consultancies in India,” Kumar says.
“Our corporate office in Chennai has moved to a larger space in a prime location, a new office facility has been opened in Mumbai and our strong presence in seven cities across India, are all good indicators of HICC’s leadership position in the market with a promising growth potential,” Kumar said.
As a nation, India is also well known for its technological prominence and HICC is well aligned on this national aspect with investments in new software and tools to enhance the value of offering to clients.
The Hill International team wishes a happy Independence Day as India celebrates its ‘Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav (75 years of Independence).
