Sustainable Scaling: Solutions for Managing Risk on Europe’s Data Center Projects
The California Transportation Foundation (CTF) recognized Hill International (NYSE:HIL) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB) for their success in delivering the Pier G Metro Track Improvement & Wharf Repair Project during CTF’s 29th Annual Transportation Awards. Pier G Metro Track was selected for the highest award in the category of Ports/Marine Transportation.
Hill International (NYSE:HIL) provided construction management support services to the POLB CM Department for the project, which featured constructing new track and reconstructing the existing track on Pier G. The project included demolishing existing facilities and repairing and mitigating cracks within the Wharf Deck and Pier Metro Structure.
Led by Construction Manager Mihaela Stroe, PE, CCM, LEED AP-CM, Hill’s team featured Assistant Construction Manager Jon Jordan, PE, CCM, Lead Inspector Dan Osorio, and Rail Inspector Juan Alvary.
Said Stroe, “We are honored the project received this recognition. It is a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication to ensuring our client’s goals were met.”
During the construction phase, Hill oversaw the paved track upgrades with corrosion protectant and the installation of an upgraded drainage system. Hill also managed the excavation of all contaminated soil materials and reinforcement of a 1,200 LF concrete slab. The rail component of the project involved installing 8,500 LF of new railroad track, which created an intermodal bypass track. This also allowed for an extension of waterside tracks. Hill’s support included project controls, inspection, materials testing, and office engineering.
Hill was in constant communication with the POLB, as well as invested stakeholders, including Pacific Harbor Line and Port tenants Metro and Oxbow.
“This was a challenging project for a great client and winning an award is simply icing on the cake,” Stroe said. “We look forward to continuing to provide the Port of Long Beach, and all our clients, with award-winning service.”
