Hill provided owner’s representative services to Northeastern University during design and construction of the Carter Field project. Northeastern worked with the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department to facilitate the $25.6 million development of shared-use space. Featuring two multipurpose fields, tennis courts, an inflatable air structure, and playground, the field will provide a space for University athletics as well as public use. The project required extensive coordination between the University and City stakeholders.
Hill was responsible for managing and maintaining the overall project budget, facilitating the value management process, consultant contract management, development and maintenance of the master project schedule, design reviews, coordination with client representatives, meeting facilitation, and coordination of project permitting and general project oversight. Hill also facilitated a value management program at the design development phase to create a targeted list of cost reduction opportunities, while maintaining the client and design teams’ program and design objectives.
The project used the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) v2 Rating System. SITES is a rating and accreditation program intended to define sustainable sites and landscapes.
“The partnership between Northeastern University and the Parks Department, managed by Hill International, enabled the transformation of an underperforming park facility on the border of the Roxbury and South End neighborhoods in Boston into the preeminent active recreational facility in the Boston parks system.” -Chris Cook, Commissioner, Boston Parks Department
