Project Value $7.4 million

The City of Richland’s new Fire Station 76 project addresses the current and anticipated growth in the city and improves response times and safety needs by locating fire, law enforcement, and ambulance services directly in the Southwestern region of the city. Part of Richland’s Comprehensive Facilities Plan, the new facility provides initial emergency medical, law enforcement, and fire response capability.

The project included the construction of a new fire station with associated site improvements, sited in the rapidly growing neighborhood of Badger Mountain South and within a 30-acre regional park. The City’s vision for the project was to include a larger police footprint than typical for Richland, with a target size of approximately 10,800 SF. The station includes 6 sleeping quarters, a kitchen/dining area, day room, and fitness room. Other amenities include a community meeting room that doubles as a training room for police officers and firefighters. An apparatus bay can house up to three fire/emergency vehicles, bunker gear, storage and apparatus support space.

The new facility was delivered using the Progressive Design-Build (PDB) method, which required approval from the state of Washington to employ. The Hill team provided program, project, and construction management support services throughout the project, including working with the PDB team to realize the cost and schedule benefits of this delivery method while mitigating risks and removing impediments to delivery.
