Hill is providing project management services for the restoration of the historic Villa San Carlo Borromeo. Built in the 14th century by the famous Visconti family, the Villa San Carlo Borromeo is a historic residence located within Groan Park in Senago, northwest of Milan. The Villa and surrounding grounds have served many functions over the years, most recently as a five-star luxury hotel and restaurant. While regarded as a cultural asset, the Villa is not currently in use. Al Rayyan Tourism Investment Company (ARTIC) has acquired the Villa and is undertaking a restoration project to reopen the hotel.
ARTIC aims to maintain the hotel’s distinguished atmosphere by maintaining many of the Villa’s existing features. Accordingly, the scope encompasses a variety of restoration and conservation efforts involving the Villa’s many frescoes, statues, fountains, and other historical furnishings and architectural elements. The renovated hotel will also include dining facilities and amenities such as a cigar lounge, a spa, an indoor pool, a multipurpose room, a café, and seven meeting rooms. Additionally, ARTIC plans to use the Villa’s 100,000 SM grounds to host weddings and other events.
As project manager, Hill will support the client with a variety of project and construction management services including, cost and schedule control, design review, quality control/quality assurance, tender and procurement management, permitting coordination, legal coordination, risk monitoring, stakeholder management, site monitoring, project administration and document control, and reporting. The Hill team’s support will help ARTIC’s project team preserve the Villa’s historical features in accordance with global best practices, while delivering a world-class hotel and restaurant.
